A Message from Paul aka El Jefe | email@example.com :
I am a Marine Corps Veteran, during which, I was stationed in Kuwait and Iraq among other duty stations. After the infamous “Shock and Awe” campaign, little was reported how Saddam Hussein’s regime had retaliated. On March 21st, 2003, after American forces crossed into Iraq, the Iraqi military sent numerous missile strikes into Kuwait, one of which struck the base I was stationed at. We were the first American forces that were attacked. We were training at the time when the missile made contact and all hell broke out! It has been 12 years since that day and I still remember the smell, the terror, and specifically the reaction of one Marine in particular. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of the things that happened and what I did during my 12 month tour in Iraq.
Later that day, I found myself and a fellow Marine, required to cross into Iraq with nothing more but two enduro motorcycles, a GPS, 720 rounds for our M-16A2 service rifles and 60 rounds for my 9mm. No further transportation or security detail was provided. We successfully meet up with a forward deployed unit and remained attached to them for a couple weeks providing assistance in urban combat scenarios. Supply lines at the time were not secure and it was advised that we not return to Kuwait without support. It was here, that I realised that my life had changed forever!
I made regular trips back and forth from Kuwait and Iraq providing support throughout my tour. I was young and motivated to serve my beloved Corps, I was not thinking of the ramifications of my actions and the things that would later come.
